Mesa Area Prayer Summits - Please Come!

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1: 4,8).

After his resurrection, and before his ascension into heaven, Jesus made two things very clear to his disciples: One, you are going to impact the entire world; Two, don't even try to do this without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit - wait for it!

So they waited. And what did they do? They prayed. "They all joined together constantly in prayer" (Acts 1:14). Then, we all know what happened. The Holy Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost, and the church was born, with 3,000 being added to their number in a single day!

We, too, have been challenged by God's Word to go into all the world and make disciples. We, too, are dependent on the Holy Spirit's empowerment to see this happen. If we truly want and expect God to move in a powerful way in our Mesa area, we, too, ought to be joining together constantly in prayer!

This is the heart behind our summer Mesa Area Prayer Summits. Our desire is to simply come together and offer our humble hearts and requests to the Father in Jesus' name, in hopes that He will answer our prayers of faith with the blessings of His guidance and power.

We have already had one summit in Apache Junction. We have three more planned in July, taking place across our spread-out city.

EVBC in EAST MESA (Mesa, east of Power Rd.)
- Friday July 20th @ 7:00 p.m.
- at the home of Bill & Karen Hartley
- 9458 E. Impala Ave. (Ellsworth & Baseline)

EVBC in CENTRAL MESA (Mesa, from Gilbert Rd. to Power Rd.)
- Tuesday, July 24th @ 7:00 p.m.
- at the home of Randy & Sue Sitton
- 3496 E. Diamond Circle (Val Vista & Broadway)

EVBC in WEST MESA (Mesa, west of Gilbert Rd.)
- Monday, July 30th @ 7:00 p.m.
- at the office of Concerned Christians*
- 525 E. Broadway (Mesa & Broadway)

Our hope is that you can attend the Summit closest to you. Better yet, attend all three! Certainly, if you can't make the one closest to you, but can come to another one, please do!

Please know that childcare will not be available for these events. If the cost of childcare is the only thing keeping you from attending, please let me know - we'd like to help.

It was Jim Cymbala, pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York, who said, "You know how popular the church is by who comes out on Sunday morning ... but you know how popular God is by who comes to the prayer meeting." My genuine hope is that many of you long to see something wonderful happen for God through EVBC in Mesa - and because of that, you will grasp the importance of these Summits. I can't make them "mandatory" ... but might if I could! Please do what you can to join us as we seek His face for our future.

And feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

God's best to you all - I hope you're as excited as I am about what God has in store for us in the months and years ahead!

In His hands,
Bill

Men of Mesa, we're going to hang out in the bleachers, and watch the Dodgers take it to the Diamondback (okay, now you know where my allegiances lie!). Ticket's are only $7.50. Give me a call, or drop me an email, if you'd like to plan to go (billhartley@evbc.org - 480.889.3490).

Summer Home Group

Kevin & Laurie Rymer are hosting a summer-long Home Group on Monday evenings. They are meeting at the home of Ken & Helen Brannon, 7548 E. Glencove Circle, near Red Mountain Park (Power and Brown), and are going through John Piper's book "Don't Waste Your Life." This is an ideal opportunity for those who have never participated in a Home Group, or those whose regular Home Group is taking a hiatus for the summer. If you're interested, give Kevin a call at 623.202.7029.

Las Sendas Area Women's Circle

We've learned that summertime is not the best time to launch a new program opportunity! We are still looking to have a Mesa Women's Circle group that will meet at the home of Sebastian and Kimberly Lourier. This group will be primarily for women with small children who want to connect relationally. If you are interested in such a group, please give Kimberly a call, and let her know of your interest, and the best times for you to meet. The group will officially begin when a core of participants is determined.

Concerned Christians Summer Classes on Mormonism

Concerned Christians is an organization dedicated to understanding and evangelizing Mormons. They are offering Thursday night courses on Mormonism this summer, beginning June 24th. The classes take place at the Concerned Christians office at 525 E. Broadway Road in Mesa. For more information, contact EVBC's own Bob Betts at Concerned Christians, at
480-833-2537. You can also check out their website at www.concernedchristians.org.

The Men Are Still Meeting!

Our Tuesday morning men's fellowship continues to meet this summer. Join us at the Paradise Cafe, on the northwest corner of Val Vista and Baseline, for some good time in the Word together on Tuesdays at 6:30 a.m. We're wrapping up our study of the book of Ephesians, and will then launch into 2 Peter.

Lots of plan are being made these days by the Area Pastors of EVBC, as we plan to formally launch our Area Ministries focus this fall. Pray for us, and keep your eyes on the website and blog for more information as it becomes available.

God's best to you all!
